Happy New Year!
I love a good list. To do lists, grocery list, phone calls to make, workouts to try, recipes to make, etc. If there is more than one thing that falls into a category, I am going to turn it into a list. Maybe I picked up this note taking habit from my Dad (who is never without a pad of paper and multiple pens in his chest pocket, even when holding curious, pick-pocketing babies) but I have always felt good about writing things down and then checking them off. (Yes, I have written things down before just so I can mark them off.)
Setting goals at the onset of each new year is always fun for me because, well, it’s a list. Health goals, career goals, and family goals always top the list, but I like to think that my goals differ from year to year and truly reflect the direction I want to go. During the final months of 2016, and in the first sweet moments of 2017, I feel like my direction is becoming more clear, and my lists have a common theme. I am working towards something big and exciting in hopes of making 2017 my best year yet.
Another favorite list, books to read, is always a fun one because it’s a reflection of so many areas of life- fiction books recommended by friends, professional development topics, health management, hobbies I would like to try, etc. So many great books, never enough time to read them all. I am currently immersed in “In the Company of Women” by Grace Bonney. It won’t be long before this book will earn its check mark because it’s so inspiring, hard to put down. Full of inspiration and advice from entrepreneur women around the world and complete with beautiful photos, this book is rich on so many levels. I started jotting down some of the quotes and comments that spoke to me as I think about this new year and all the promise it holds (sort of like a list.) And then I decided to try something new. Rather than making resolutions or a list of goals, I am going to pick a few quotes or pieces of advice that will drive me this year as I continue to grow. And while I am only 65 pages into the book, I have come across enough little gems to light my fire for the entire year.
So here you have it, my first list of 2017. I hope you find these words as encouraging and inspiring as I do.
Success is measured by quality of life.
The world needs more gratitude.
Let go or be dragged.
Work towards your dreams but don’t forget to appreciate the current moment.
Immerse yourself in the culture of your trade.
More listening, less talking.
Trust your vision, and be patient.
Don’t let go of your goals, let go of your expectations.
Experiences over things.
We are an energy, not an image.
And a quote that says it all…
“What you seek is seeking you.”
This one makes my heart sing…out loud.
So whether you are a list maker, a goal setter, or someone who dreams of doing these things, may
you find the find the words that inspire you and ignite you in 2017.
