Thank you, Athleta

I couldn't help myself....I reached out to Athleta directly. And I want to share with all of my followers how this brand is doing so much good in the community. Support local, and support those who are actively working to make the world a better place. Thank you, Athleta.

Dear Athleta,

You have always been a company I have admired. You make amazing and functional products that fit (and do what they say they are going to do!) the models in your catalog truly represent real womens bodies, you celebrate women as being strong and beautiful inside and out, and you support local communities in many different ways.

Last summer I remember being in the store and picking up a pair of running shorts, slipping them on, and thinking these were the ones. They felt great, looked good, and didn’t “ride up” like so many shorts. Then I found a little pocket on the side of the shorts that was just big enough for a key or some gum, or for someone like myself, who is Type One Diabetic, just the right size for a blood glucose monitor or some glucose tabs. These are two things I absolutely can not leave home without. Ever. To be able to slip them in a pocket, and to know I would be that much safer from a life threatening hypoglycemic episode, brought tears to my eyes.

Athelta stores in Atlanta have always supported The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). You have hosted sales where a portion of the proceeds were given to JDRF, you have held fashion shows for young girls, many of whom are Type 1, and you have treated Type 1’s of all ages with complete respect in your stores. That is more than we can say for some other companies, and valuable beyond words.

In your recent catalog I saw that you designed a jacket for a young girl, Sabrina, who is Type One. She now has a hoodie she can wear that has a “just right” zipper pocket so she can be a kid, and also be confident her life dependent medical supplies won’t fall out. I was diagnosed as an adult, but I can only imagine the comfort that Sabrina, her parents, her friends and her teachers find in knowing that she is safe. And how empowered this young girl must feel to know that a company like Athleta sees her, hears her, and supports her. She truly is owning her power.

I couldn’t help but thank you for this enormous gesture that likely changed her life, and is most definitely having a ripple effect throughout communities worldwide.

As an entrepreneur, a health and wellness coach, a yoga teacher, and a busy mom to three kids (7, 5, and 1 month) you have earned a tremendous amount of respect from me, and complete brand loyalty.

Thank you for being you.
